The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is the country's primary regulated stock exchange, established on April 30, 1975. Operating as a nonprofit organization, SET aims to promote savings, mobilize capital, and support national economic development. It was created following the need for a regulated securities market to fund industrialization, evolving from the earlier Bangkok Stock Exchange. SET serves as the central hub for securities trading, providing systems for trading listed securities and facilitating related activities. It offers a range of products, including equities on the main SET board and the Market for Alternative Investment (mai) for smaller firms. The exchange also manages derivatives through its subsidiary, Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX). As of April 2025, SET has a market capitalization of approximately US$380.19 billion, ranking it 25th globally and 3rd in ASEAN. The exchange is overseen by the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission and is known for its liquidity and diverse market offerings.
